The thermostat may call for cooling and the indoor fan may still move air, but if the outdoor section is not removing heat, the air coming from the vents will feel neutral, slightly cool, or warm instead of clearly colder than the room.

Normal airflow with poor cooling points first to the outdoor unit, refrigerant charge, reversing valve, or compressor operation. Weak airflow points more toward a frozen indoor coil, blower problem, or duct issue. If you see ice on the refrigerant line or air handler, cooling often falls off before airflow gets very weak; if you find water later, that is commonly meltwater after the ice begins to thaw, not a separate leak problem.

Rapid clicking outside can mean a contactor or start component problem, a loud hum without strong cooling can point to compressor starting trouble, and a blower that sounds normal indoors while the outdoor unit stays unusually quiet often means the outdoor section is not actually operating. If only one room or zone stays hot, the issue is less likely to be the refrigerant circuit and more likely to involve zone dampers, branch duct leakage, or airflow balancing.
